Job Purpose:

 

The Tax Liaison Unit interacts with Product, Tax Technical, market custodians, tax authorities and processing units to manage the operational implementation of new services and market changes.

 

For each new service, Tax Liaison will research the steps to achieve application of services, identify all stakeholders and define their responsibilities in an operational processing document (OPD). The OPD is distributed for review and approval by all impacted teams and department management.

 

On a continuous basis, Tax Liaison identifies, articulates and manages opportunities to improve implementation of existing custody services to benefit our clients and Citi.

 


Job Background/context:

 

The Tax department’s purpose is to ensure that clients receive the most advantageous withholding tax rates possible on their cross border income under the network of double taxation treaties (DTTs) and domestic law. The available benefit provided is based upon the documentation the client provides to the Tax department, their domicile, entity type and the current GTS tax product offering.

 

The Tax Department operates tax services on client safekeeps held in both Global and Direct Custody branches.

 


Job Responsibilities:

 

• Liaise with Product, Tax Technical, market custodians and tax authorities for new tax services and market changes on behalf of Tax Operations.
• Project manage and control the introduction of new services and changes of existing services with stakeholders in Tax Operations.
• Apply business analysis techniques to improve the implementation of existing services and share best practises between teams.
• Develop and continuously refresh knowledge of all tax service markets for relief at source and tax reclaims, offered by both Direct and Global Custody branches.
• Review tax treaty and domestic law changes identified by Tax Technical for operational impact to existing tax services.
• Draft and implement tax documentation templates provided to clients applying for RAS or Reclaim tax services.
• Control and update of base tax rates on core custody system.
• Communication of on-going market and product developments to Tax Department teams

Qualifications
 

Required Knowledge: 

 

• Understanding of withholding tax, relief at source and reclaims derived from extensive operational or technical experience.
• Demonstrated experience of acting as a subject matter expert within an operations environment.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

• Relevant 3rd level qualification

• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to develop excellent professional working relationships with senior managers and their teams.
